Post I hate it, when you forget,...
...that the Cartel case you are working with takes a 36.4 dial and you spent already a whole evening trying to fit the stem, wondering why the movement is standing so high and it is tilting with the stem in place and the crown won‘t grip the taper upon screwing in and you are re-checking dial thickness and even re-glue it on the back plate to gain precious height and you finally realize that 37 is just the wrong dial diameter and you then have to grind down the most carefully finished dial and backplate...
Yes, I do hate that

Rant over and now feeling better

Hate that!

Or when you’ve finally got the long seconds hand to fit on the sf240 only to realize it’s stopping because you forgot to put a brass washer on top of the hour wheel ... Oof!

I hate it when you get the keyless screw too lose because you've lost count on how many turns and the only way to fix it is disassembling the whole watch.

I remember that I had everything in place and lined up, ready to fit the hands....only to see that the hour wheel was still on the bench...

I'm glad it's not only me, though it may be that I've done too many of the above.

It can be fixed with a hammer and some glue.

My first repair, sit tight:

Gold cased Breitling with center seconds, an heirloom...expensive....brrr...

Almost done, just needed to fit the hands and then the center seconds hand simply disappeared when it took off and flew from my set of tweezers...I looked all over, flashlight, headlight, on my knees, big signs all over the place: "don't enter this area", "vacuum cleaning and wiping forbidden", "get rid of that cat", you name it, no luck. I looked several times a day for weeks....

I had to tell the owner that his watch needed a part and that it would take a while as it had to be sourced in USA...

Then one day, a few weeks later, when I sat and looked out through the window, something flashed in the curtain....there it was, sitting as a dart in the curtain...

The owner have since then become a good friend and I have told him the truth, we laughed a lot that day.

I have also learned how to dress a set of tweezers, so it won't launch parts.

My worst experience, apart from dropping movements now and then. So far these movements have all been mine..

Sounds like you need to post a tutorial as to how to dress tweezers for all of us!

I remembered an even worse one, erhm...two actually.

The first one was back then, when I opened a 1872 Longines 21LS with papers, it was one from the collection I inherited from my grandfather. It was cased in a swing ring case and there were no screws to keep the movement in place, so it flew and the staff was shot. It took me almost two years to find the correct staff, I had no lathe back then.

The other one, a cased Hamilton 921 with a stubborn movement ring in a wrist watch case, I pressed gently and the tool slipped and hit the balance wheel.....

I can still hear the echo "oh no"...I have learned replacing staffs the hard way...

I can replace a staff in any kind of watch today. 8-)
