I'm with Yoda, this is a hobby best kept honest, and nobody has any reason bother us the way we are going about this either. (I noticed that HF was kept out of that FB rant, thankfully.)

Using the skills and knowledge honed here to try to scam people is what will give us attention we don't want.

It happened right in front of your eyes...

"Aluminium Egi" sounds like another fake of xx new mentor. The movement that was offered here is an old conversion. It would have been easy to point it out. We can only guess what type of movement was installed prior to auction to make an obvious fake look more legit...

This saddens me.

I hope to hear from Mark just to be sure or at least know what he has to say.

Mark is a very talented tinkerer. Hope he did not get carried away by some temptations.

In the discussions and questions he was involved I learnt an incredible lot. There are still one or two things I would like to know, like: 3646 Reference and Serial number - stamped or engraved?
BTW: The chile movements lack one important feature. I repeatedly spotted them in a fraction of a second as "not the real deal". This is why I am hesitant to dump silly amonts of money in movement conversions.

cheers, Wil

Just scrolling thru on phone. Mods here are always aware there are two sides to every story and we should be reluctant to jump to any conclusions

Given the expertise and goodwill here, experienced members are a resource for anyone outside the homage community to draw on for analysis and comment re whether items are genuine or not. As one example as noted given Amperes involvement in Troy's 3 piece dials, if any surface outside this forum he should be in a position to highlight etc. Similarly other parts builders are able to spot their own work or certainly confirm if detailed photos are forwarded on.

Honesty is the best policy and we should be vigilant with all items for sale. Provenance is the key with all antiques and documents are very important.

There also have been times when some sellers have been (unfairly) flamed also. There are two sides to every situation and mods are required to hear out both parties in any dispute both before jumping to conclusions.

HF has zero tolerance for anyone selling items that are not as described

well this is a bit sad but unfortunately the evidence points to him trying to pass of a build as real.

I feel he should come forward and speak about it. I agree that making watches for ourselves and I emphasise ourselves because we love watches that are unobtainable in any other way is ok, No different to building an AC Cobra replica.

and I agree that if this is indeed what is happening then it brings bad light on our forum and I think overall we are a decent bunch here.

Post Re: Post on the Paneristi fb group
i've come back to read this again, both parties vague, the way I read it, Mark posted pictures to see what the response would be. I've posted pics of my Tudor build on the vintage rolex forum with my datejust when i was in a funny mood, just to see if someone would comment. nobody ever did, but they did compliment me on my type D when I posted a picture of my collection and I stated it was a build and i had private messages saying it looked lovely. Anyway,
so Mark posts pictures, someone jumps straight in asking if it's for sale. This probably happens every week on the Rolex and Omega forums. Mark lets it roll to see if someone calls fake, Mari Us calls fake so who is Mari Us ? He fishes for price, Mark doesn't suggest one, Mari asks about history, Mark is vague could be a tease to see how much further it will go. Mari pushes for more info and asks about parts and serial numbers, mentions a database, suggests a price another piece has sold for. Mark does not reply about price or that he wants to sell other than saying make an offer, and personally I think this is the point he was trying to get 'Mari' to state a huge sum followed by LOL or to tell him to stop winding people up. Is Mari trying to get him to incriminate himself or provide details that the database will prove it's a build ?
If you know it's a build, you've seen the pictures before, (on HF) you know the situation behind it, wouldn't you just say, OK Mark, stop taking the piss, I know you built it, nice parts but we know it's not original. Why would you keep pushing for more details to try to trap someone.

Some good points there, irate. I might have jumped to conclusions, I don't know what to believe anymore. :? Would be nice to hear Mark's side of the story some day.

Not taking a stand on the content of this thread, one thing does come to mind:

Amperes (Jose): Talk about having double standards. Elevating yourself by outing "fakers". This is downright comical.

Are you serious?

Last I checked, you were in this to the waist too, helping with "faking" Panerai dials when Tr0y started his dial project. And then "partnering" up with him to try to make 618 conversion bridges for 616s.

It's distasteful how you talk about this community with your new posh friends, and still had your hand so far down the cookie jar before, and even had a prominent role helping fake products yourself.

Well, just my two cents. This place certainly has changed

No infringement of any hf forum by members has been reported to mods. Flaming of members no allowed as per forum rules. Amperes endorsed work being done by Troy on 3 piece dials and conversion bridges at the time and kindly helped mods behind the scenes bring most orders of dials to a successful conclusion, along with a number of other members who actively helped out. Take a chill pill all.

Ah, radiomires aka ----ADMIN EDIT: SHARING PRIVATE INFO OF OTHER MEMBERS IS NOT ALLOWED---- , gang member no. 3

I also have information about you. You are one of those who know very well in what Mark is involved. It's not only about the watch he posted on fb, Mark's rabbit hole goes much deeper.

Btw, how does it feel to bully other people who cannot keep up with your standards of building... must be very satifying, ya? Talking about downright comical, you are the guy who meticulously replicates "gen" watches, that everybody with a basic knowledge in vintage Panerai and some common sense knows are fake. Not everything what you see in books is real. However, as I already mentioned further up, a person who builds a watch for himself and doesn't try to pass it off as the real dang is not a faker imo.

I pulled out of the 618 conversion bridges project as soon as I realised how dangerous it would be... and that was at the very beginning. Yeah, my passion went in another direction, so what? You and your other gang members are beating a dead horse. I may have helped with a few things, but that was a long time ago.

+1

We do what we do to get the finished article as close in spirit to the original tech used at the time, not to replicate same. Ollder non accurate movements, bespoke parts and cases that functionally are inferior etc. We are building homages, not replicas- true enthusiasts work.

Try and build something similar (with similar parts) and you will gain a real appreciation and inderstanding of what OP did at the time.

Maybe they are jealous of how cool some of these builds really are at a fraction of the cost and how they actually look better without the over inflated price tag affixed that they pay, that always leaves a sour taste in their mouths..

Hi there

You say that Mark is fine, and all systems are at go.... ?!
But I can’t seem to get a hold of him either!!
I have gotten a couple of emails some time ago, but he
wasn’t really answering any of my inquiries!
I haven’t been able to have a real conversation with him
for a long time now!!

And I really need to have a chat with him!!

Does anyone know how to get a hold of him?
