Post Just want to thank a couple of members and tell a story
I don´t remember the exact time for this, it think it was sometime during autumn 2016 when Buddha Jones had a sales thread and I bought a dial from him. Just a dial.....

It turned out that the man shipped a goody bag with a set of hands, a Swiss Legends case for a quartz movement, the dial I asked for, a backing plate and an old battered Bulova watch.

I used the dial and forgot about the rest for a while.

Twice a year I pull out parts, tools and stuff I don´t need/want and put it up for sale on eBay or give it away, sometimes I donate to the HF Raffle as well, depends.

This time I pulled out the Bulova and, hey......wait a minute, it was not easy to see through the crystal as it was heavily scratched, but from the side I saw a dark blue dial (man, I am a sucker for blue), a light blue center seconds hand and a set of white hour and minute hands...hm...

The case wasn´t that bad, oval and oozing 1970s, no crown...possibilities.

Let me see,....so I pulled out some things, silicone paper with diamond dust, grit 10.000 to 50.000 and I rubbed that crystal for a good half an hour, finished with cerium oxide mixed with water and polished lightly with a wax compound on my fingers afterwards. Cleaned the dial and hands, polished the case with my fingers to save the lines of the case and finished with a compound based on wax.
I forgot about the movement, when I opened the case it was like opening a can of beer, that sound...the movement saw light for the first time since it left the factory, it was an honour to take it apart and give it a good service. It is the Bulova caliber 11AOACB, 23 jewels day date movement. This particular watch model was only made in a limited run between 1972-1973. The movement itself has been used longer, but not this configuration with the day at 0900 and date at 0300.

Couldn´t keep my mouth shut, so I told Buddha Jones, emailed him a couple of pictures and he had only one thing to say, black rally strap with blue stitchings. So be it, strap arrived yesterday, blue in the holes as well as soft and well padded. Great combo, spot on, thanks Buddha for your good taste and for the battered Bulova! That man has taste!

The crown, hm...my source came back the day after with a "can´t do", so I posted here as I knew that Cousins UK has them, only thing is that it isn´t as easy for me to buy from them as it would be for someone based in the UK. Edwinowl stepped forward faster than lightning and the crown is on its way to me now. Thanks a lot Edwinowl, it would have been a nut to crack without your help!

Hahahaha!!! I have pics but I won't spoil it for everyone. Honestly it had been so long I had forgotten all that I sent you Michael, but I knew that I made the right call. I too am a sucker for blue dial watches but I knew this one was out of my scope. Can't wait to see the final product.

Waiting for the crown now, the long wait. It is in Sweden already, but now that it is weekend I am afraid that it will be Monday before I see it.

For once I am a little confused regarding the finishing part, an ordinary ETA649X stem will show 1,2mm on the caliper, the crown is supposed to be a tap 9 (0,90cm), but the damn stem in the movement shows 1,0mm - I really hope that there is an easy explanation ahead....

I will send the pictures to you BJ when I get that far, also ask for your help with the uploading here, it´s only fair as you started the fire. ;)

I already know that this will be one of my top ten favorites in my small collection, it´s unsual and a bit odd, it will be special to me for a number of reasons. I am sure that it will cause some curiousity and questions as you don´t see these every day now, 43-44 years after it was made. The really great thing is that it looks so damn new and I did almost nothing to get there.

Well, the hunt continues as the tap 9 crown was too small for that stem...if you know where to find such a crown, please give me a shout.

It seems that a suitable crown comes from US.

I was all wrong about the tap sizes, it is a tap 8 and not 9 or 11 like I thought at first. I assume these sizes are different in different parts of the world.

Well, it has been found and the waiting begins.

I know, I waited with your name as I meant to present the final result and include you in the story. But thanks, it wouldn´t have happened for a while without your Bulova part!

I regulated the movement today, a project in progress.
