Post My latest build- 1917 Waltham.
I was playing around in the shop one day about a year ago when I discovered that this particular 1917 Waltham movement would fit in this particular Chinese case almost perfectly. Slightly snug, the stem lined up with the hole, and etc. No movement ring was needed. This is one of the 12 size movements with the 14 size pillar plate. They're not uncommon, you can find them out there. The biggest problem was that the movement is negative setting. Well, collecting parts for a few decades has it's advantages. I found a stem and sleeve in my stash that could be made to work with the case. I also found a crown that would fit the stem and look nice on the watch. The dial was sent off to International Dial Company of Wilmington Ohio for the custom reprint. You've got to love that font on the word "Waltham". The hands are the original ones that came with the movement. The movement got a service, a balance staff and a new mainspring. This one was done in stages over the course of nearly a year when I decided to take a break from working on other people's stuff but I really like the end result. And now on to the pictures!

Lucky you,

for having a decent dial reprinter. The outcome is very pleasing.

The ones cranking one Eyesore after another are unfortunately out there, too.....

Minute details like the minute hand EXACTLY matching the chapter ring kinda separates the men from they boys.

well done, Dave, you're the man here.

International Dial will refinish dials for anyone, all you have to do is set up an account with them which takes about 5 minutes online.

Very very nice. I also love those old Waltham movements. The craftsmanship is stunning.

The dial is very well done and the original hands look great.

I have one D serviced for me that is going into a project over the winter.
