Case: Used Stainless Riedenschild Swihanic (46mm)
Movement: 40ish year old Gallet 6497
Hands: Ebay
Dial: Printed on waterslide and mounted on an old spare dial

After finding this watch for what I thought was a deal (basically the cost of what I would have paid for the case alone) - I couldn't help but put together a 1960s dual crown SC style diver's watch. I couldn't help but exaggerate with a 666 Fathoms rating since this was a fun project/watch.

http://www.riedenschild.de/html/riedenschild-swihanic.html

To some, I might have killed a wonderful looking watch. However, since I am not a fan of the late 70s and early 80s Looking watches, I had no problems taking this watch apart. To those of you still screaming, fear not, the dial and original Swiss 6498 movement are still intact and for sale :D

Disassembled - This case is actually very well put together. The inner bezel has a very good action to it, better than the Lucawatch and Ocean 7 cases that I have with no slop in the crown to bezel action. There is a very slight bezel rattle that is present in the other watches I have with the inner bezel. The crystal is DFG coated. Case is stainless with 5 ATMs of water resistance.

Again I have stored the newish original 6498 movement, dial and hands, replaced it with a 40 year old Unitas 6497 and spare dial I had laying around. The hands are from my Tritium 2533 build with a flattened minute hand with vintage lume from watchlume, a trusted forum sponsor

My printer seems to be going on the fritz....The dial print quality wasn't as good as my previous batch, oh well, I guess I might have to spring for a new printer in the near future. It works for the 50 year old look I was shooting for anyways, so No problem here. The printed dial was given a layer of gloss, mounted on the dial, lumed, them given a layer of matte.

Mounted to a spare strap I had laying around.

Finally - My project postings are never complete without the lume shot.

Adding picture for size comparison  - I hadn't realized the size difference.

36mm (the only sub 40mm watch I own) 45mm and 46mm respectively. Unfortunately my Polaris homage is MIA as it is in pieces right now :(

Mate,

I love your work. Looks fabulous.

Just to set the records.. a Super Compressor is not defined by dual crowns. A lot of SC cases did have dual crowns but the SC refers to the case design. There is another tread about Compressor and Super compressors.

Dan

Dan, You are correct about that. I am including a link from a previous discussion to clarify this

http://www.scubawatch.org/EPSA_SC_FAQ.html

I should further clarify that this watch (dial inspiration) was from the 1960 Diver watches, more specifically the dual crown SC watches of the day.

Thank you all for the encouraging comments.

One of my next projects will be a cira 1960 diver's dial in a water proof case without an outer rotating bezel.
